The Project Restore 94 is a major $353 million multi-year infrastructure initiative by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) designed to rebuild, repair, and modernize a critical 12.7-mile stretch of the I-94 corridor in Wayne County. Spanning six communities—Romulus, Taylor, Allen Park, Dearborn Heights, Melvindale, and Dearborn—the project extends from east of I-275 to west of Michigan Avenue (US-12). Scheduled from early 2026 through mid-2029, the work is divided into five distinct segments encompassing full roadway reconstruction, drainage overhauls, the rehabilitation or replacement of more than 20 bridges, ramp upgrades, and a brand-new interchange at Ecorse Road. Throughout construction, MDOT aims to keep access open to Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) and major industrial hubs like the Ford Rouge Plant while maintaining two lanes of travel in each direction, though drivers will encounter temporary lane shifts, reduced capacity, and periodic ramp detours.
